Kid Rock – Home Grown in Macomb
There’s no kidding around when hometown hero Kid Rock decides to champion a good cause. Macomb’s own Kid Rock proves again that his roots remain strong in his hometown.
Robert James “Bob” Ritchie was born Jan. 17, 1971, in the Village of Romeo, to William “Bill” and Susan Ritchie. Rock’s father owned several car dealerships, and the Ritchies raised their four children – older brother and sister William “Billy” and Carol, and younger sister, Jill – on their six-acre orchard in Romeo. There, Kid Rock regularly helped pick apples and care for the family’s horses.
Music was an early passion of Kid Rock’s. He deejayed at local parties, and joined a Mount Clemens group of musicians known as BO Wisdom of Groove Time Productions. With them he’d perform at area house parties. From there he moved into the club scene and found his stage name, after crowds said they enjoyed watching “that white kid rock.”
